When night falls on a diversion stretch of Grand Trunk Road in Burdwan, West Bengal, this arch lits up like a grand entrance to a palace. Beyond the gate lies a rather simple market of everyday needs, clothes, food. Built in 1902-03 on the coronation of Bijay Chand Mahtab, Maharaja of Burdwan, the arch was later renamed Curzon Gate after Viceroy of India Lord Curzon visited the town in 1904.
